BTW, some of the current Windows 8 apps (news, weather…) includes Ad banner in the end which is quite annoying. Trying the same in an ordinary browser is easy going. There are plenty of screen dimming utilities, but they don't carry over into Modern, only dimming the desktop.

Whether this is possible depends on how the page is written and whether you have control of it. Navigating to content WebView provides several API for basic navigation: GoBack(), GoForward(), Stop(), Refresh(), CanGoBack, and CanGoForward.
