Thank you for helping us maintain CNET's great community. Anyway, followed the instructions and it worked like a charm, so thanks again. Did as instructed above…recovered all my email!! I use Windows Vista Home Basic on my Dell Inspirion 1525 (2 GHz dual-core processors, 2 gigs RAM).

Win10 loaded my port settings for AT&T but someone else reported previously that Cox mail wouldn't work. This post has been flagged and will be reviewed by our staff. However, sometimes it does nothing no matter how many times I open the application. Reply nearly over says: July 21, 2012 at 5:50 AM thank you !

Reply Joanna says: April 27, 2012 at 6:27 PM fantastic advice, why they don't have this on the Windows Live Mail help + support is beyond me. I have been using Windows Live Mail since it came out as a replacement for Outlook Express. get redirected here Inside this folder was my inbox, drafts and sent items.

I am at the point of making a back up of the two directories - can you tell me how I do that? in Browsers and Email I have been playing around with win 10 for a while now, first in a virtual machine but lately as a dual boot with Win 8.1. Thank you!

It is the entire Windows Live Essentials program pack that (maybe?) shuts down and are being replaced by "Apps" from Windows Store.

Somehow, the missing emails came back through the storage folder but not in any kind of order or under any kind of folder. iTunes runs fine by itself and in coordination with my iPhone other than the above issue.PPS: This site seems potentially relevant, however is highly technical: e/but doesn't help with this Any idea what the cause of the error is & of course, how to correct it? Thank you.

Actually it is not "just" Windows Live Mail I have read will shut down. LiveMail would not come up and not show on task manager. You bailed me out of a very tricky situation. Reply Sandy says: March 17, 2013 at 7:51 AM I have Windows 7 and Windows Live Mail 2011.

Reply philu says: September 27, 2011 at 8:32 PM Look around - is there another directory such as ApplicationData, or can you find the files in some other directory? I do have a Windows.old file but do not know how to do anything with it??? It just refuses to open and doesn't produce a single piece of dialogue.

Worked like a charm after I deleted an account with 13 years' of email while trying merely to cancel the constant notices after checking an email address no longer active. Only 1 update. DO NOT manually update Windows Live Contacts, but realize they are not always up to date. Can anyone advise please. I can't see it in the App Data folder either, but the empty one is there.

Step 5 was a little unclear at first but in the program ShadowExplorer there is a dropdown of restore points that Windows Mail makes every time you close or open the I created a new email account in windows live mail and simply dragged all the msgs in the inbox folder from explorer into the inbox of windows live mail, same thing I can't follow the steps above, only got as far as finding the App Data folder. I went into task manager and ended wlmail.exe*32 and it opens fine. Normally a new member will be allowed this priviledge after making a certain number of posts - thus my posts may seem out of order. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling? Also if I choose a date to restore emails, say November 2012, does that mean those received or sent after that date will not re-appear?
